Coffee Talk with John Omoresemi of PhotoVideo Image Productions

WC: How did you get started in photography?

JO: My love for photography began in 1988 while studying for a Television and Film Production degree. My passion for photography grew even more while managing a camera store in 1994. While at the camera store, I learned a great deal about camera equipment and different photofinishing techniques. Also, I became a Certified Photographic Consultant, a certification that has greatly enhanced my standing as a knowledgeable and skilled photographer.

WC: What inspired you to get into the field of wedding photography?

JO: My inspiration came from a few sources. First, I was not pleased with my own wedding photos in 1993. I thought the poses were boring and stiff. No candid moment was captured on film.

Secondly, I assisted a premier St. Louis photographer in photographing a wedding. He happened to use quite a few of my images in completing the couple's finished album. That built my confidence to pursue wedding photography. I thought wedding photography was the best way to share my love and passion with others.

WC: What kind of photographic style are you known for?

JO: I blend both photojournalistic with the traditional style. My goal is to present my client with a visual story of their special day and that requires flexibility.

WC: Do you photograph in black-and-white, color, or both? Out of the two, which one is your favorite?

JO: I do photograph in both black and white and color. My favorite is black and white. I have often found that I can capture and show raw emotions better with black and white.

WC: What advice do you offer to couples searching for a wedding photographer?

JO: Start your search early. Visit photographers' websites to view their portfolio and determine an appropriate style that captures the essence of you. Once you find a few photographers that meet your criteria, visit at least two of them at their studio. Asking for pricing information on the phone is a turn off for most photographers. You may ask for starting package price information. Determine what kind of photography coverage you want, and then find the photographer that best meets your needs. After all, it's your wedding day; remember it the right way.

WC: In your opinion, while planning their wedding, what can the couple do to help maximize the value of the photographer at the wedding?

JO: Plan well. Schedule hair and make-up appointments very early in the day. Be flexible! Relax and enjoy your day.

WC: Do you photograph weddings outside of Missouri?

JO: Yes! I am available for destination weddings.
